ALS Holsters

Overview

If you don't already know, ALS stands for Automatic Locking System, a technology developed by Safariland that locks the weapon in place immediately upon re-holstering. This is accomplished through the use of a locking mechanism within the holster itself. Once in the holster, the weapon is automatically secured in all directions.

Many officers are dissatisfied with models that only utilize the SLS hood because they have to remember to close it manually. In a situation where they have to move quickly and react to surprises, there is often not enough time to manually lock the hood. The obvious problem is this leaves the weapon unprotected against takeaways, and vulnerable to falling out if a suspect has to be wrestled to the ground.

Holster Mechanics

The genius of the ALS is its simplicity. With this new technology, even at times when the officer is caught off guard, he or she can have peace of mind knowing that the weapon is secure. It is not necessary to flip the SLS hood back up each time.

The ALS Holster provides NIJ Level II Plus Retention and can be upgraded to Level III Plus Retention with Safariland's optional 6001 SLS Sentry Switch installed.

Safariland knows that draw time is very important for an officer so they designed the ALS holster to specifically address this need. The release mechanism for the Safariland ALS is ergonomically designed to match the way an officer's hand moves when reaching for the weapon. There are no new steps to remember because the release mechanism is in the path that the thumb naturally follows on the draw already.

When the ALS holster was first released, the Safariland ALS only fit two weapons. Since then, Safariland has improved on the design to now fit Glock, Heckler & Koch, Sig Sauer, and S&W. The ALS holster currently fits more than 25 models. The holster is available in Plain Black, Basket Weave, or Safariland's own STX Tactical finish.
